Statistical metadata is structured information that describes data, providing details that simplify data searching, usage, and management. The main components of statistical metadata include Statistical Metadata–Activities (MS-Keg), Statistical Metadata–Variables (MS-Var), and Statistical Metadata–Indicators (MS-Ind). Each component offers a standardized format to enhance data handling and interpretation, and further guidance on these metadata types is provided within the official handbook.
In the implementation of Statistical Metadata in Kota Metro, three interconnected elements are essential for smooth operation:
Data Steward – BPS Kota Metro. Metadata functions as a tool to measure the maturity level of statistical administration. This measurement allows BPS Kota Metro, as the data steward, to design targeted statistical guidance programs that meet specific needs.
Data Producers – All Regional Government Organizations (OPD) in Kota Metro. Utilizing metadata helps avoid duplicative efforts, improves budget efficiency, and enhances organizational value through effective information management.
Walidata – Metadata aids in understanding and managing data and information as organizational assets. It documents data processing stages, ensures quality control, and provides definitions, data usage guidelines, limitations, and more. This structured information helps prevent errors in data dissemination.
Types of Statistical Metadata include:
On August 20, 2024, BPS Kota Metro held an audience session with the walidata, including Kominfo and the Secretary of SDI Bappeda, to coordinate and prepare for sectoral statistics training, with a particular focus on statistical metadata. This initial training is scheduled for late August 2024 and will include 18 OPD representatives.
BPS Kota Metro, as the data steward, is deeply committed to improving metadata comprehension among Kota Metro Government departments. Metadata contains crucial information about data characteristics and is instrumental in the data exchange process. By providing metadata information, data users can consistently interpret data, especially when viewing spatial data directly. Metadata documents contain detailed information that explains data characteristics, including content, quality, condition, and collection method, with the aim of sustaining this training in the years to come.
